The Westmead Fellowship

Purpose and guiding principles:
•The Westmead Fellowship will support outstanding applicants with evidence of an upward career trajectory, who are judged most able to use this opportunity to establish or consolidate a solid research foundation, establish their own group at Westmead Hospital or elsewhere within WSLHD and go on to attract future funding.
•The applicant’s research is to be conducted at, integrated with and strengthen existing research themes within WSLHD.
•Retaining existing WSLHD researchers who meet the selection criteria is a high priority.
•The value of the Fellowship will be $150,000 pa for up to 3 years, principally to support applicant salary.
•Fellowships will only be awarded to applicants who meet the criteria.
•Up to two fellowships will be awarded.
•Awardees will be expected to continue to apply for external salary support, and if successful to forgo the remainder of their fellowship.
•Clinician-researchers will use these funds to secure protected research time (at least 50%).
