16th International Congress of Immunology, Melbourne
Location:Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre
The International Congress of Immunology (ICI) is the largest meeting in its field, and an event not to be missed if you want to keep abreast of the latest developments in immunology research and clinical practice.
The main theme for ICI 2016 is “Immunotherapy: Harnessing the Power of the Immune System”. This is a timely motto, as we witness the emergence of amazing new immunotherapeutic strategies revolutionising the treatment of cancer, autoimmunity, allergy and immune deficiencies and transplant outcomes. Advances in discovery and development of vaccines for infectious diseases will remain a major focus of the Congress, as will the emerging fields of microbiome-host interactions, new innate cell subsets and immunoregulatory pathways. Progress in immunology is to a large extent driven by new technology, and advances in imaging from the molecular to whole-animal levels, single-cell analysis and deep sequencing will also be showcased in the program. Without forgetting that new advances in immunology are required to save and improve human lives in developing and in developed countries, and among disadvantaged communities such as indigenous populations.
Over 100 Invited Speakers and 180 Chairs from all over the world have confirmed attendance. 50% of these are women, many are up-and-coming scientists who have broken new ground in immunology research and practice. To ensure every immunologist from any location in the world, from students to established group leaders, has an opportunity to present their newest research at the ICI 2016, the program will include >800 oral presentations selected from submitted abstracts, distributed in >60 mini-symposia. Poster sessions will provide opportunities for discussions of results and ideas. ICI 2016 registrants have the opportunity to register for a pre-Congress update course in Basic Immunology or Clinical Immunology imparted by world leaders, who will provide overviews on the latest developments in basic research and clinical treatments
